Famous Combat Boots In The Flicks
Combat boots made the change from an army issue item into something that all teenagers wanted to wear, during the Twentieth Century. If ever an item was selected to best represent the homogenisation of status and authority into popular everyday culture, then combat boots are that item. Icons of popular culture in films can be seen to be wearing combat boots as well as those in pop music.
Combat boots can be seen being worn by Sylvester Stallone’s character Rambo in the films of the same name – perhaps one of the most famous film accounts of combat boots. The Dirty Dozen also features combat boots as an important part of strengthening the military image. Combat boots are also used as a metaphor, especially in films like ‘Your Mother Wears Combat Boots proving that they can be used in film in various ways. Combat boots are not only depicted in a literal setting such as those in films that show the military, but also in films that use combat boot as a metaphor for something else, such as in the film ‘Your Mother Wears Combat Boots’. The film’s military setting is important, but only as means to tell of the amusing relationship between a mother and her son.
Combat boots also appear in many music videos and popular mainstream cinema featuring heavily music laden soundtracks. In the ‘Goth’ movement, combat boots are an essential part of the image, which supports heavy rock music and prefers to dress in black clothing and wear dark make-up. Combat boots also feature in the gothic inspired film The Lost Boys in which a group of teenage vampires feature.
The armed forces star combat boots in the pictures a great deal, as well as people playing civilian roles. It goes without saying that combat boots must therefore be very popular given the movie roles that many pairs have been given in the past. Some movies’ actors and actresses could be described as having been overtaken in popularity by the combat boots that also star in the films.
